"All this from taking a chance on you"

"I took a chance one day when I was flush and sent twenty bucks to gain access to the Freelance Work Exchange Professional Edition. Since then, I've edited a sales letter, a follow-up letter, an 11-page Web site, and a brochure. I'm 'on call' to do pinch-hit proofreading for a medical newsletter editor in Florida ..and I've landed a gig editing a new Canadian magazine coming out this fall. All this from taking a chance on you."
--  Karyn Martyn

The freelance work exchange site is a valuable resource to every freelance professional who does not already have their schedule fully booked for the next 6 months.

First of all, send off for the list of 50 top-producing freelance work markets. The home page links to number of different freelance resources. The Resources link takes you to a page listing many more.

This freelance work site is not for those of you looking for the security of a job, though it does have a few links to resources that can help you. In my book Secrets of Changing to a High Pay Computer Career I point out that computer consultants can make a lot more than employees. If you have a skill that you can market on a freelance basis, you can make a lot of money and this site can help you do that.

And what if you are looking for the security of a paycheck?

If my book has an overall "theme," it is that to successfully change to a computer career, you *must* get experience in your desired area, by hook or crook. Employers do not want to hire anybody for entry level positions unless they are recent college graduates. If you are older than 23, they want you only if you already have experience. And even recent college graduates have an easier time finding jobs if they have some real life working experience in the info tech industry.

This is where everybody naturally asks, "How can I get experience if I can't get hired without it? It can take some hook or crook creativity. If you can show that you have worked on projects on a freelance work basis, that is experience. If you can show you have already earned money with your skills, that is a big plus.

Therefore, even if a job is what you really want, working on a freelance work basis for a while can help you eventually find the job you want.

You might even find yourself making so much money and having so much fun working from home that you decide you don't really need a paycheck after all.

And even if you do take that wonderful job, you can still work part time on a freelance work basis from home. This is ethical as long as you don't work on any projects that conflict with your employer. You can make extra money, increase your skills, expand your contacts and increase your professional reputation.

How can this freelance work site help you?

First of all, there are the many freelance work resources I mentioned above. If you are not registered at all the sites listed, you are missing some opportunities.

Secondly, you can list yourself and your services on the site. This gives businesses and clients who need your professional services the opportunity to find you. You will see that the site also promotes its services to potential clients by convincing them to post their projects.

The site also a page of interesting self employment, freelance and entrepreneurial news links.

Check this site out, because you can find more clients and make more money through its freelance work resources. At least send off for the free report of the 50 top-producing freelance sites.
