Scrum for Not Yet Techies"Computer Careers: Developing Software as a Management Focused Process to Meet Business Needs"by Richard Stooker, President Info Ring Press and author of Secrets of Changing to a Computer Career |
|
Scrum is the odd name for an agile software development method created by Ken Schwaber and Mike Beedle for managing systems development projects. Scrum is different because it treats software as a new product, and so is a management controlled process focused on business needs. Scrum was developed to address the common problem of failed software development projects - an estimated two-thirds of all such projects run over their estimates. Many fail entirely. This is a huge waste of time and money that businesses cannot afford. Scrum uses teams and prioritizes projectsThere's always a Product Backlog. More important projects come before less important projects even if the less important projects are older. The Product Owner, business management, does this prioritizing. Scrum teams use 30 day sprints to come up with a working version of the project as soon as possible. It can be used in conjunction with Extreme Programming. Next: Sun ONE Studio |
