Sun Solaris certifications come from Sun Microsystems, a large and well known computer company know for its high performance computer systems and for inventing the programming language Java. It also makes high level servers, and Sun Solaris certifications validate your expertise in working with their equipment.

Look at certifications from a cost/benefit or Return On Investment (ROI) basis. If they help you get a better paying job or make more money at your current job, they are obviously "worth it."

The problem is, there is no real way of measuring how much you can expect your income to go up as a result of any given certification. It also depends on non-related job search skills such as how well you network.

Sun Solaris certifications bottom Line:

Solaris is Sun's version of UNIX. They offer two different Sun Solaris certifications.

Sun Certified Solaris Administrator

"Becoming a Sun Certified System Administrator means you've demonstrated knowledge and skills ranging from printing to security, disk management to back-up and recovery in today's premier network computing environment - Solaris."

You must pass two exams, Part I and II. You must pass Part I before taking Part II.

Sun Certified Solaris Network Administrator

"Becoming a Sun Certified Network Administrator means you've demonstrated a superior level of expertise and the ability to implement more complex local area networks in a client-server environment, including TCP/IP and associated protocols."

You must first obtain the Sun Certified Solaris Administrator certification. Then you must pass one additional exam.
