PowerBuilder certifications come from Sybase, a prominent company marketing database and enterprise (business) applications. Sybase Powerbuilder certifications validate your skill at using PowerBuilder to build customized computer software applications.

PowerBuilder certifications worth it?

Whether or not any certification is "worth it" is an individual decision. You alone must decide what your career goals and needs are.

Look at certifications from a cost/benefit or Return On Investment (ROI) basis. If they help you get a better paying job or make more money at your current job, they are obviously "worth it."

The problem is, there is no real way of measuring how much you can expect your income to go up as a result of any given certification. It also depends on non-related job search skills such as how well you network.

Sybase is certainly respected in this area. However you learn to use Powerbuilder, it's certainly worth the $300 to take the two PowerBuilder certifications tests to get certified.

They are not entry level certifications for people looking for their first computer job. The first level (Associate) requires at least 6 months of experience working with PowerBuilder. The full PowerBuilder certifications require at least 12 months experience.

Also note: Sybase is holding tests for this Powerbuilder certifications for PowerBuilder 6.0. They are also giving beta version tests for this certification for PowerBuilder 7.0.

Sybase Certified PowerBuilder Developer (CPD)

PowerBuilder certifications Associate level -- pass the CPD Associate test - cost $150

6 months experience with PowerBuilder is required to take the test.

Full Professional level -- pass the CPD Professional test -- cost $150

12 months experience with PowerBuilder is required to take this test.
