Oracle certifications come from an established vendor of software, especially successful with heavy duty business class database programs. Oracle certifications validate your expertise with their software programs, which are widely used throughout industry.

Oracle certifications worth it?

Standard disclaimer:

Whether or not any certification is "worth it" is an individual decision. You alone must decide what your career goals and needs are.

Look at certifications from a cost/benefit or Return On Investment (ROI) basis. If they help you get a better paying job or make more money at your current job, they are obviously "worth it."

The problem is, there is no real way of measuring how much you can expect your income to go up as a result of any given certification. It also depends on non-related job search skills such as how well you network.

Bottom Line:

If you want to develop applications using Oracle programs, you certainly want Oracle certifications. However, that is NOT advice to pay more than you can afford for the training.

Oracle certifications:

Application Developer/Oracle Developer 2000

You must pass 5 exams. They are 60-70 multiple choice questions and last up to 90 minutes. They are given by Sylvan Prometric and cost $125 each.

Introduction to Oracle SQL and PL/SQL Exam number 1Z0-001

Exam 2:

Develop PL/SQL Program Units Exam number 1Z0-101

Exam 3:

Developer/2000 Forms 4.5 I Exam number 1Z0-111

Exam 4:

Developer/2000 Forms II Exam number 1Z0-112

Exam 5:

Developer/2000 Reports 2.5 Exam number 1Z0-113
