Free software downloads - this is a true story, and don’t we all wish it had happened to us? Get an idea for free software downloads that's good enough, and this computer career could happen to you.

Free software downloads have created fortunes.

About 5 or so years ago, 3 geeks were discharged from the Israeli Army. They decided that they wanted to make their fortune, and since the Internet was in the news and they were techies, they decided that they would find a way to make a lot of money from the Internet using free software downloads.

They determined that they would develop software. Very important. Not just any software, but a program that could be distributed by free software downloads.

They were determined to write software that did something or performed some kind of service which they themselves would find useful, so it could be distributed through free software downloads

They locked themselves into an apartment for 3 days brainstorming ideas. What did the Internet need that it did not already have? And something of true value, something that they themselves would use if it were available? Something that people could get for themselves through free software downloads.

They came up with a answer and went to work, borrowing $100,000 from one of their fathers. In 6 months they wrote the software. Then they put up a website to distribute the software, after giving it a short and catchy but appropriate name.

They understood that the more people who owned their free software downloads, the more people would use it.

The people would use it, the more valuable their software and their computer careers would be

To make sure as many people used their software as possible, they gave it away. Made it free software. Freeware -- free software downloads.

Sure, they would have made more money upfront by selling it, but there was a catch to this free software downloads. It was worth having only if other people had it too. That’s part of what the 3 ex-Army buddies had figured out. People would be reluctant to pay for it unless they knew that other people already had, because they needed other people to make it work.

And since people can be reluctant to tell their relatives and friends to buy something, that reluctance would have limited the spread of the software. It still would have sold, I’m sure. But it would not have become as widespread as it did.

The software is useful, but much more useful to some people than others. Since many people on the Internet are cheap and want things only for free, many would not have paid for it. But go to a web site and download it for free, sure many did that.
