Compaq ASE certifications worth it?

Standard disclaimer:

Whether or not any certification is "worth it" is an individual decision. You alone must decide what your career goals and needs are.

Look at certifications from a cost/benefit or Return On Investment (ROI) basis. If they help you get a better paying job or make more money at your current job, they are obviously "worth it."

The problem is, there is no real way of measuring how much you can expect your income to go up as a result of any given certification. It also depends on non-related job search skills such as how well you network.

Compaq ASE certifications background:

Compaq is well known as a hardware manufacturer. They were one of the very first to come out with clones of IBM PCs in the early 80s. They have remained one of the top manufacturers. They are currently a leading manufacturer of servers. Compaq ASE is aimed for that.

The Compaq ASE - Accredited Systems Engineer -  is one of the industry's earliest certifications, dating back to 1991. Its purpose is to train and certify salespeople, service technicians, system engineers Compaq Authorized Resellers, consultants, integration specialists, information management personnel responsible for Compaq solutions and anyone and everyone else who can use proof they are qualified to install and configure Compaq servers with various kinds of operating systems.

One of the benefits of becoming a Compaq ASE is getting "inside" information from Compaq of coming changes in equipment. Therefore ASEs are required to sign confidentiality and nondisclosure agreements, and ASEs may not be employed by a competitor of Compaq.

Topics of Compaq ASE certification include Compaq server architecture, cache systems, error correcting memory, SCSI storage, drive array technology, RAID fault tolerance, and networking products.

There are three levels of these certifications. Within each level there are various specialties of operating systems. Windows NT, Novell NetWare, Unix and, in development, Linux.
