Baan Certifications Background:

Baan certifications come from one of the major Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) suppliers. They supply ERP software to many large companies worldwide. Baan certifications therefore are extremely useful for getting jobs with companies using that software. Companies that use other ERP software packages will prefer people who've been training in those programs. However, anyone who has them can no doubt pick up other similar programs more easily than someone with no previous experience.

Baan certifications worth it?

Whether or not any certification is "worth it" is an individual decision. You alone must decide what your career goals and needs are.

Look at certifications from a cost/benefit or Return On Investment (ROI) basis. If they help you get a better paying job or make more money at your current job, they are obviously "worth it."

The problem is, there is no real way of measuring how much you can expect your income to go up as a result of any given certification. It also depends on non-related job search skills such as how well you network.

Baan is not the #1 supplier of ERP software. However, it is well regarded. Baan certifications are highly regarded and almost essential for getting a new job working with Baan software. SAP is the industry leader and Peoplesoft is the newcomer that's moving up fast. However, many companies do have Baan software and undoubtedly many more will, so there will undoubtedly be many Baan job openings in years to come.

If worse comes to worse, Baan experience and Baan certifications will still count for a lot if you ever need to switch to SAP or Peoplesoft in the course of your computer career.

Training for Baan certifications is far from cheap, but no more so than many other certification trainings, but is not as easy to find. Also, prices I've seen were not as exorbitant as ERP companies charge companies to train their employees at this computer job.

Bottom line:

If you have your heart set on working with Baan software, get started on your Baan certifications.

Baan Certifications:

Baan IV

Description: This is the basic Baan certifications level. You get in in one or more tracks of their ERP software. Could be in Manufacturing, Systems administration, Finance and Sales/Distribution. It will give you a deep knowledge of that particular track.

In each Baan certifications track you must pass 4 tests by scoring at least 75%. Each test contains 50 questions and is timed to take at most 90 minutes. Question types are true/false and multiple choice.

Baan certifications tests are administered by Sylvan Prometric. They cost $300 each.
