Smalltalk for Not Yet Techies 2"Computer Careers: Expand Your High Tech Jobs Programming Range by Learning the Computer Language that was Invented for Human Beings"by Richard Stooker, President Info Ring Press and author of Secrets of Changing to a Computer Career |
Smalltalk has had this ability for over twenty-five years, so enthusiasts in this computer career had to wonder what all the media uproar was about when Sun Microsystems released Java a few years ago.According to Smalltalk enthusiasts, Small talk does everything that Java is hyped for, does it better and has been doing it for much longer. IT is based on very simple concepts and a very straightforward syntax. This makes Small talk easy to learn. It has only five reserved words. It defines a few concepts that can be combined to solve any problem. The first reserved words are true, false, nil, self and super. Some critics say that Small talk programs run comparatively slowly. Smalltalk defenders say this is more than offset by the greater at which programmers can work on their computer jobs. Small talk is also similar to Visual Basic and other graphical development environments. At a time when all other languages were programmed with text editors, it was using an image, which was a collection of available objects. Its key advantages are said to be productivity, reliability, and portability. Small talk is not a generally well known language. Next: C++ |
