Windows CE is the Win operating system scaled down to run on cell phones, digital cameras, PDAs, compact computers and other such handheld wireless devices. Windows CE first appeared around 1996 and had a look and feel similar to Win 95. Windows CE was a new operating system, completely different than DOS or Win applications. It is a true multitasking and multithreaded operating system. You can even run 2 or more applications at the same time. 1.0 included scaled down versions of Excel, Word, Internet Explorer and Schedule. It also has support for terminal emulation, PPP for Internet E-Mail and web browsing. Windows CE supports PPP connectivity to the InternetAt the time the available options were few and far between but since then they have grown and are still rapidly growing. It is used in Sega Dreamcast, thin clients, set top boxes, Microsoft's PDA size products like the Handheld PC and Pocket PC. Windows CE is a combination of vendor supplied drivers written in C or Assembler and the Kernel was written exclusive 0 is the last version.
