.NET IL Assembler is an important piece of Microsoft's .NET initiative though it works completely behind the scenes. .NET IL Assembler is an assembly language called ILasm, not to be confused with ILASM, which is the compiler with which developers can use to develop in MSIL rather than the higher level .NET languages. .NET IL Assembler is platform-driven rather than data-driven. The CLR converts the high level commands of the .NET languages C# and VB.NET to MSIL Microsoft Intermediate Language. This must be converted into machine and platform specific native byte code. It must use exact linguistic mapping of the underlying platform.
