.NET Commerce Server works with Microsoft's .NET initiative and was basically designed to be an "out of the box" e-commerce solutions for large businesses. .NET Commerce Server is a COM-based framework, a collection of COM+ components, and set of tools to build and manage large e-commerce web sites on Windows networking software. If you're a large business that already runs your network on Microsoft's latest networking software and you know you need an e-commerce web site but you don't want to buy the exorbitant amounts of money you'd have to pay to develop one from scratch, .NET Commerce Server is for you. .NET Commerce Server is the most popular e-commerce platform for Windows -- a nearly complete B2C and B2B suite.Certainly it would cost you a lot more to pay developers and designers to come up with brand new applications that do the same things. It is component based and extensible so you can do what you need with it. In almost all cases you'll still be better off modifying it than inventing the wheel yourself. .NET Commerce Server comes with: Product catalog management (including multilingual support), user profiling, content targeting, business analytics, integrating with supplier's catalogs, complex business logic functions such as figuring taxes, shipping and international issues. You can use .NET Commerce Server to run targeted campaigns and analyze the results to improve future marketing efforts. .NET Commerce Server has tools for analyzing customer behavior and managing relations with other businesses. It uses SQL Server as the backend database, and its business analytics are linked to SQL Server's Analysis Services. .NET Commerce Server can integrate with .NET My Services and .NET developer tools. It also uses the Active Directory of Windows networking software. It has such management tools as Biz Desk and Biz Talk and uses XML. It also uses Active Server Pages source code. .NET Commerce Server comes with seven or more mini-applications called "sitelets." These are:
