FTP / File Transfer Protocol for Not Yet Techies"Computer Careers: Using This Protocol for Sending Files Through Networks"by Richard Stooker, President Info Ring Press and author of Secrets of Changing to a Computer Career |
|
FTP / File Transfer Protocol is the standard way of transferring files to another computer over the Internet. Its main use now is for web site creators to send new or changed HTML web pages to their web host server. FTP / File Transfer Protocol is old time procedure for sending files to other Internet residents. These days, I'm sure that most Internet residents have no idea how to do this. I just myself learned that you can ftp a file through an MS DOS command. Although I use FTP / File Transfer Protocol on some of my web sites, I have never fttped (pronounced fuhtupped) a file directly to anyone elseThese days, if you want to download a file from a web site, it's in executable (.exe) format and all you have to do is click on it and Netscape or Explorer take care of the rest. This does not apply to MacIntosh owners. As far as I can tell from the sites I've seen that sell ebooks, Mac users have to read ebooks online. FTP / File Transfer Protocol may allow us to send them a file, but it'd probably be a manual process and we want to automate our Internet marketing. I have never seen anyone put a FTP / File Transfer Protocol link to an ebook or other file on their web site. If it's possible, there're apparently good reasons for not doing it.
