CMMI / Capability Maturity Model Integration was released January 2002 by the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) to provide a complete collection of best practices for the product life cycle -- especially software and engineering products. The concept of CMMI / Capability Maturity Model Integration is to link business activities and goals, to act as a framework for improvement in software engineering, systems engineering.

CMMI / Capability Maturity Model Integration is a model for integrated product and process development. Businesses can use Capability Maturity Models / CMM to access development and maintenance processes and to implement improvements in their own procedures.

There're two representations to CMMI / Capability Maturity Model Integration:

Staged

CMMI / Capability Maturity Model Integration can improve processes and business organization. It covers 25 Process Areas (PA). It uses Supplier Sourcing and Integrated Product and Process Development / IPPD.
