SQLJ stands for SQL for Java and is a set of extensions allowing developers to use Java to embed SQL database requests. When it began, Java could not benefit from the strengths of SQL, although languages such as C and C++ could, and this was a weakness of Java for large businesses that needed software applications that could efficiently access relational databases. SQLJ was a solution devised by a consortium of companies that, as far as I could see, excluded Sun Microsystems, the owner of Java. SQLJ does support only static SQL, and therefore complements JDBC / Java Database Connectivity, the official Java technology for databases, which can handle dynamic SQLIn December 1998, this specification was accepted as ANSI Standard X3.135.10-1998.
