HDML / Handheld Markup Language is for creating web pages that can be accessed by small handheld computers, pagers and mobile phones. HDML / Handheld Markup Language was invented in 1997 by Unwired Planet, along with the UP Browser which can read it. HDML / Handheld Markup Language was to be part of the third generation of wireless technologyIt uses Openwave's Handheld Device Transport Protocol (HDTP). Now it has been transformed into an XML-compliant version called WML / Wireless Markup Language, and is part of the WAP / Wireless Application Protocol standard. However, older phones can only understand it. Still, if you're just setting up a wireless accessible website, you'll obviously want to go directly to WML.
