Eiffel for Not Yet Techies"Computer Careers: Developing Software Applications With This Object Oriented Programming Language"by Richard Stooker, President Info Ring Press and author of Secrets of Changing to a Computer Career |
|
Eiffel is an objected oriented programming language created by Bertrand Meyer in 1985. It was named after Gustave Eiffel, the engineer who designed the tower in Paris France, because that building was built with many small, reusable components that, although never intended to become a permanent monument, have proven remarkably stable - exactly the metaphor M. Meyer wanted for his software language and process. It's short for "The Eiffel Development FrameworkTM" - a comprehensive approach to software development. It consists of:
EiffelStudioTM, the integrated development environment containing the Eiffel language, and related productivity and quality related tools. This software company claims productivity increases of two to ten time, plus a cost 80% lower and quality ten times greater. It runs on almost all major operating systems, and it can be used in conjunction with existing legacy software, so it does not cost companies to begin adopting it. It is even fully integrated with Microsoft's .NET. These are the Eiffel basics. Next: EJB Enterprise JavaBeans |
