DEN / Directory Enabled Networking is a term describing industry specifications for how to store information about a network's users, resources and data in a central directory. According to Cisco, DEN / Directory Enabled Networking is a "specification to bind services available in the network to clients using the network." DEN / Directory Enabled Networking "enables applications to leverage the capabilities of the network as well as better support the needs of the applications using it." t is an object-oriented information model of network elements and services as part of a managed environment in a repository-independent fashion.
