AspectJ is an open source Java extension and compiler for Aspect Oriented Programming / AOP. AspectJ is integrated with Eclipse, NetBeans, JBuilder and other integrated development environments / IDEs. AspectJ extends Java's object oriented programming into AOP, which is needed because some objects must deal with aspects that are not their main business. AOP is a method for modularizing aspects, which are new units of modularization. The main limit of object oriented programming involved cross cutting concerns -- systems level requirements that must be included in multiple modules. AOP handles these.
