SAS certifications come from the SAS Institute, Inc., the largest privately held software company in the world. The company provides a number of high quality data flow and storage software solutions to businesses. SAS certifications can advance your computer careers if you work with any of their products or hope to work for a company that does.

SAS certifications worth it?

Whether or not any certification is "worth it" is an individual decision. You alone must decide what your career goals and needs are.

Look at certifications from a cost/benefit or Return On Investment (ROI) basis. If they help you get a better paying job or make more money at your current job, they are obviously "worth it."

The problem is, there is no real way of measuring how much you can expect your income to go up as a result of any given certification. It also depends on non-related job search skills such as how well you network.

SAS certifications background:

There are six SAS certifications, with some exams under development as I write this.

The first is SAS Certified Warehouse Architect (WAC). For individuals who wish to demonstrate knowledge of strategies for gathering requirements, designing, implementing, testing, and deploying SAS data warehouse solutions.

The exams required are: SAS Warehouse Technology and SAS Warehouse Architect Concepts.

The second SAS certifications is SAS Certified Warehouse Development Specialist (WDS)

For individuals who design and construct SAS data warehouse solutions.

The exams required are: SAS Advanced Programming, SAS Warehouse Technology and SAS Warehouse Development Specialist Concepts.

The third is SAS Certified Base Programmer. For individuals who are responsible for analyzing and presenting data to solve business needs using SAS products.

The exam required is: SAS Base Programming.

The fourth SAS certifications is SAS Certified Advanced Programmer

For individuals who are responsible for writing efficient SAS code to solve complex problems in accordance with the system specifications, while minimizing use of computing resources.

The exams required are: SAS Base Programming and SAS Advanced Programming.

The fifth SAS certifications is SAS Certified Application Developer: SAS/AF. For individuals who are responsible for designing and developing advanced information delivery applications using SAS Software, including SAS/AF technology.

The exams required are: SAS Advanced Programming and SAS/AF Application Development.

The sixth SAS certifications is SAS Certified webAF Developer: Server-side

For individuals who are responsible for designing and developing advanced information delivery applications using SAS Software, including SAS/AF technology.

The exams required are: SAS Advanced Programming and SAS webAF Server-side Application Development.
