jCert Java certifications worth it?

Standard disclaimer:

Whether or not any certification is "worth it" is an individual decision. You alone must decide what your career goals and needs are.

Look at certifications from a cost/benefit or Return On Investment (ROI) basis. If they help you get a better paying job or make more money at your current job, they are obviously "worth it."

The problem is, there is no real way of measuring how much you can expect your income to go up as a result of any given certification. It also depends on non-related job search skills such as how well you network.

jCert Java certifications background:

The jCert Java certifications Initiative objective is to simplify the computer careers situations for Java professionals, helping both them and employers, by providing clear training, certifications and career paths.

The jCert Java certifications Initiative says this will increase the availability of qualified people, reduce the cost of training and allow vendors to lower the cost of creating application-specific programs.

The jCert Java certifications Initiative is attempting to streamline Java-based career paths.

The jCert Initiative's goal is the slogan, "Certified Once, Recognized Everywhere."

The jCert program recognizes four job roles:

  1. Web Developer
  2. Java Programmer
  3. Solution Developer
  4. Enterprise Developer

Candidates qualify for jCert job roles by passing the specified certification exams. Two of the job roles, Web Developer and Java Programmer, are defined as core technology certifications, meaning these exams validate vendor-neutral and Java-based technology (non-tool) skills.
