IBM pSeries certifications worth it?

Standard disclaimer:

Whether or not any certification is "worth it" is an individual decision. You alone must decide what your career goals and needs are.

Look at certifications from a cost/benefit or Return On Investment (ROI) basis. If they help you get a better paying job or make more money at your current job, they are obviously "worth it."

The problem is, there is no real way of measuring how much you can expect your income to go up as a result of any given certification. It also depends on non-related job search skills such as how well you network.

IBM pSeries certifications background:

IBM pSeries certifications validate skills involving the IBM pSeries UNIX server 690. The IBM pSeries certifications are primarily for those involved with working with IBM and the pSeries.

Logical partitioning (LPAR) support for the pSeries 690 allows UNIX and Linux workloads to be consolidated and help lower operating costs. The pSeries also demonstrates superior cost of ownership, better price performance, lower power consumption, and lower processor-based software pricing. It is a superior system for high-end UNIX and Linux consolidation. It can scale to a 32-way symmetric multiprocessor (SMP) helping to provide the scalability required to drive a UNIX datacenter.

The POWER4 chip is the first ever dual processor SMP on a single piece of silicon. LPAR support for up to 16 UNIX or Linux partitions. IBM's advanced SOI and copper fabrication technology.
