CTT+ certification:

CompTIA CTT+ certification stands for Certified Technical Trainer and is a cross-industry credential recognizing excellence in technical instruction. The CompTIA CTT+ certification can be used as a credential for other IT teaching certifications from specific vendors such as Novell and Microsoft, as proof of the ability to teach technical subjects.

CTT+ certification worth it?

Standard disclaimer:

Whether or not any certification is "worth it" is an individual decision. You alone must decide what your career goals and needs are.

Look at certifications from a cost/benefit or Return On Investment (ROI) basis. If they help you get a better paying job or make more money at your current job, they are obviously "worth it."

The problem is, there is no real way of measuring how much you can expect your income to go up as a result of any given certification. It also depends on non-related job search skills such as how well you network.

CTT+ certification background:

The CompTIA CTT+ certification would also be a good credential if you are looking to teach classes for various college campuses, vocational schools or college training schools.

The exam tests the following areas:

  1. Analyze Course Materials and Learner Information 12%
  2. Assure Preparation of the Instructional Site 5%
  3. Establish and Maintain Instructor Credibility 5%
  4. Manage the Learning Environment 12%
  5. Demonstrate Effective Communication Skills 5%
  6. Demonstrate Effective Presentation Skills 6%
  7. Demonstrate Effective Questioning Skills and Techniques 7%
  8. Respond Appropriately to Learner's Needs for Clarification or feedback 7%
  9. Provide Positive Reinforcement and Motivational Incentives 5%
  10. Use Instructional methods Appropriately 12%
  11. Use Media Effectively 5%
  12. Evaluate Learner Performance 7%
  13. Evaluate Delivery of Instruction 7%
  14. Report Evaluation Information 5%

CompTIA CTT+ certification is a two-part exam. The first part is an exam in conventional format consisting of 105 identification and situational multiple-choice questions. You are allowed one hour and 45 minutes to complete this test.

The second part involves an evaluation of a 20 minute video of yourself teaching a class.

You must take the written CompTIA CTT+ certification exam first. If you pass exam, you will receive instructions on how to submit your video portion of the exam.

You need a minimum score of 760 points to pass the CompTIA CTT+ certification written exam. You must cover all competency areas in the video-based exam. Failing in one competency area or not completing a competency area will result in a failing score for the entire exam.
